Assignment One: Everyone feels fear
This is an example of public speaking that resonates with me personally because of the nervousness I experience when I have to get up in front of a group of people. Although this clip summarizes the movie "The King's Speech", and is not of an actual speech, the movie is all about the preparation and practice that takes place for the King to be able to deliver his address to Great Britain when it becomes evident that they will in fact go to war. Although unlike the King, I don't have a stammer or any physical disability when it comes to speaking, this movie really made me feel normal; what I mean by that is that we see so many great speeches by public figures and it seems that they were all born with this natural ability to speak gracefully in public. When it comes to his address, which is how the movie ends, although he still slightly stammers, he has a new-found grace and he speaks eloquently and with a humbleness that I think most Kings had not shown. So to see that a man of considerable stature struggle with speaking to a crowd and finally with great practice overcome it, it gives me a slight hope that maybe with practice I could overcome my great fear of public speaking. Especially considering the only thing stopping me is myself.

Agreed on the assumption that all "great" speakers are "born that way," Kathryn. This film also contains some illustrative moments RE: the relationship between technological change/advancement and public speaking.
