This is Your Time

Coach Brooks gives an amazing speech addressing the team before one of the most memorable hockey games in history. He is the sender because he is responsible for creating the message and getting his team motivated to play. He uses a good tone to be powerful and show that he is serious. The goal is to beat the Soviets, who are known as the best team. Coach Brooks makes sure he makes eye contact with everyone to make sure his point gets across. His posture made him look tough and that there was no other choice but to listen to him. As he’s talking the players start to receive the message and get determined and energized. The receiver’s believe in what he is saying and make their own body language such as shaking their heads. This helps the coach feed off of them and get more into what he is saying.

The element that I believe is particularly significant to the effectiveness of the communication is the coach’s ability to speak robustly, not only though words but body language as well. Coach Brooks drew the attention of the players by having his tone start soft and build to being influential in a positive manner. This is important because anyone giving a motivational speech needs to pull people in to paying attention to what is being said. The person that is speaking has to believe what they are saying before they can convince others of trusting their words of wisdom.
