above the influence
Civic engagement; "individual and collective actions designed to identify and address issues of public concern"
One prime example of civic engagement is the Above the Influence campaigns. These ads are targeted towards teenagers and the younger generation. They send the message to stay above the influence and to not fall into the pressures put upon them. Teens shouldn't drink nor smoke, and they should stay responsible. They are more important things in life than falling into whatever your friends want you to. These campaigns display civic engagement because they are addressing the issue of underage drinking and trying to put a stop to it. The commercials target teens with their humor and over exaggerated, sometimes realistic circumstances. The civic engagement that put out these ads and campaigns are only one of the ways society is coming together to address a social issue.
